This privacy policy describes how Like A Word (“we”, “our”, or “the app”) treats information when you use our word game on the web, on Android, or on iOS.
Like A Word is a daily word game. The app is made available on the web and as native apps for iOS and Android, distributed through the usual app stores. This policy applies to all of these.
To provide the game and your progress, we use local storage on your device. This can include:
Some game information is also sent to and stored on our servers, as described below. Clearing local app data does not necessarily delete data held on our servers.
To operate the game and keep track of activity, we receive and may store a player identifier, puzzle and word identifiers, guesses, choices, results, and related progress information. The player identifier lets us associate activity with a player without requiring a name or email address to play; it is not necessarily anonymous under privacy laws.
If you use Learning Mode, we send the word, language, reference definition, and the answer you write to OpenAI for automated grading and feedback. We store your answer, score, feedback, reference definition, and related attempt information with your player identifier. Please do not include sensitive or other personal information in your answer.
On our Android and iOS apps, we may use Firebase Analytics (Google) to understand how the app is used. This can include:
Our custom analytics events are intended to measure use rather than record written answers. Firebase may also process device or app identifiers and technical information. For more on how Google uses data, see Google’s Privacy Policy.
Your device sends requests to our game server to use the game. Servers and service providers may process technical information such as IP address and request information to deliver and protect the service. If you contact support, we process the email address, message, and any name or subject you provide to respond to your request. Our support form uses Cloudflare Turnstile to help prevent abuse, and support messages are sent through Resend.
We use service providers to operate the app: OpenAI for Learning Mode grading, Google Firebase for mobile analytics, hosting and infrastructure providers for the game and its data, Cloudflare for support-form abuse prevention, and Resend for support email. These providers process information as needed to provide their services. We do not share personal data with third parties for their own marketing.
Like A Word is not directed at children under 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. If you are a parent or guardian and believe your child has provided us with personal information, please contact us and we will delete it.
Game activity and Learning Mode attempts are stored on our servers to provide the features described above; the app does not currently provide automatic deletion after a fixed period. Support messages, technical records, and backups may be retained as needed to operate and secure the service, respond to requests, and meet applicable obligations. Contact us if you have questions about retention or deletion.
We use standard technical measures to protect our servers and communications. Data stored on your device is under your control and your device’s security.
We may update this privacy policy from time to time. The “Last updated” date at the top will be revised when we do. Where required, we will provide additional notice of material changes.
If you have questions about this privacy policy or your data, contact us via Support on our website or through the support options where you downloaded the app.
